Fans should expect further significant improvements to the game with just over two weeks till the start of the English Premier League, especially in terms of cutting down on time wastage.

As a result of new regulations intended to reduce match time wastage, the English Premier League and EFL will be subject to them.

Thus, games may last far longer than 90 minutes, occasionally exceeding 100 minutes.

According to Sky Sports, it will now be common for Premier League games to go more than 100 minutes as match officials have grown concerned that the average amount of time the ball is in play is down at a shocking 55 minutes per match.

As a result, officials will become more severe about recording the amount of time lost due to celebrations, injuries, substitutions, and even throw-ins and goal-kicks.

The report states that there will be attempts to speed up play in matches, and this will entail having a multi-ball system for all the matches.

Addition time of 10-15 minutes expected

There will also be harsher penalties for disrespecting referees, more room for physical contact in player tackles, and a rule mandating managers to stay in their technical areas in the 2019 season.

It is increasingly likely to be assumed that games will end with 10- to 15-minute addition time after normal regulation time.

When the 2023 Premier League season begins on August 11th, the adjustments will take effect.
