Football administrator Alderman Patrick Tembo has claimed that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has acted “unprofessionally” in its handling of matters surrounding outgoing Copper Queens coach Nora Häuptle.
On Saturday, Häuptle subtly announced her resignation from her post as Zambia’s head coach but left the door open for discussions should FAZ show willingness to address some of the issues she had raised.
Tembo has since told Bolanews that it is unfortunate that Häuptle is leaving at a crucial time, as the team is expected to be preparing for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which also serves as a World Cup qualifier.
“It is unfortunate,” Tembo said of Häuptle’s departure. “It seems one party has violated the contract and it is clear that that party is FAZ.”
He accused the association of imposing some coaches and technical staff on the Swiss coach.
“It is unfortunate that when Nora signed a contract, it was stated clearly what they wanted in the contract.
“There is a coach being imposed on her [Hauptle] and she feels that coach is not bringing a conducive environment to the team,” Tembo said.
He added that some FAZ officials have also been making Häuptle’s job difficult.
“She has not enjoyed a good relationship with some top executives at FAZ because of their nature to impose things on her,” he said.
He lamented that this is a worrying phase, as it has the potential to destabilise the team’s quest for WAFCON glory and a place at the World Cup.
