Sir Jim Ratcliffe Backs Amorim Despite Poor Run At Old Trafford

Ratcliffe, who controls the football side of the club, is not succumbing to public pressure, at least for now.

Under-fire coach Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim has received the public backing of minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe despite the poor run of results under the Portuguese.

Amorim joined United midway last season following the departure of Dutchman Erik ten Hag, guiding the team to a 15th-place finish and the Europa final loss to Spurs.

With some of the transfer business they have done and Amorim having a full preseason, there was a renewed sense of hope that the club would have better luck in the upcoming season.

However, things have not gone as scripted, as the team has continued to flatter to deceive and is currently sitting 10th with as many points, six behind leaders and rivals Arsenal.

United have already recorded three wins, as many losses, and one stalemate. Some performances and Amorim’s insistence on sticking to his system of playing a back three have led many to call for his axing.

However, Ratcliffe, who controls the football side of the club, is not succumbing to public pressure, at least for now.

“It’s not going to happen,” Ratcliffe told The Times’ The Business podcast on Wednesday when asked if Amorim would be sacked. “He has not had the best of seasons. Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be.”

According to him, “You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions. You know, you flick a switch, and it’s all going to be roses tomorrow.”
