Ghana international and former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a report by Sky News.

The 32-year-old, whose contract with Arsenal recently expired, is accused of committing the offences against three different women. The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022.

Two of the rape charges relate to one woman, three relate to a second, while the sexual assault charge involves a third woman.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.

“The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which commenced in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape,” the Met Police said in a statement.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy said the focus remains on supporting the survivors.

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” Furphy said.

The Met Police is urging anyone with relevant information or anyone affected by the case to come forward.

Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020, made 130 Premier League appearances. Over five seasons, he scored four goals, including four in the 2023/24 season. His time at the Emirates was plagued by injuries, though he remained a key figure under manager Mikel Arteta.

Partey has not yet commented on the matter.
