English Premier League side Manchester United have sacked head coach Ruben Amorim after one year and two months in charge.
According to Sky Sports News, Amorim’s ‘emotional and inconsistent behaviour’ was a key factor in the decision, while his refusal to adapt and evolve his preferred 3-4-3 system led to a breakdown in confidence from the club’s leadership.
In a statement released on Monday morning, United confirmed the departure of the 40-year-old Portuguese coach.
“Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United,” the club announced.
“Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
The club thanked Amorim for his service and confirmed that Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team for Wednesday’s match against Burnley.
