English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion FC will tonight pay tribute to Zambian midfielder Enock Mwepu following his premature retirement from football due to a hereditary heart condition.

Mwepu joined the English club on 6th July 2022 on a four-year contract from FC RedBull Salzburg and just when he was settling his career has unfortunately been cut short.

He made 27 appearances for the club and scored three goals with 7 assists in his first season at the club.

However, Albion have indicated their Premier League match against Brentford tonight at the Community stadium in London will be dedicated to Mwepu for his contribution to the club.

The club on Tuesday also stocked up their shop with all-around Enock Mwepu replica shirts as a show of support for the Zambian captain.

Fans were encouraged to buy the shirts and wear them tonight at the community stadium the 7th-placed Albion takes on the Bees in their 9th Premier League match of the season.

Multiple fans have since indicated they will wear his Albion shirt number 8 and wave the Zambian flag at the stadium to show solidarity and pay tribute to the man they call “computer”.

Since the announcement of his retirement was made on Monday, many Albion fans have been seen on Twitter encouraging others to purchase the Zambian flag while some changing their profile names to indigenous Zambian names.

Enock Mwepu fell ill during the last international break while on national duty in Mali where he was later admitted to a hospital and forced to miss his country’s friendly match with the Eagles of Mali in Bamako.

It was later confirmed by his club that he had suffered from a hereditary heart condition which could not allow him to continue playing football as it could worsen and end his life.
