Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu has praised teammates Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho after scoring a hat-trick in Leicester City’s 5-0 thrashing of Southampton on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old put up a Man of the Match (MOTM) performance after notching a treble against the Saints.
Fatawu broke the deadlock in the 25th minute after clutching on to a defense-splitting Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall through-ball before finding the bottom corner.
Wilfred Ndidi doubled the lead for the hosts when he guided his header past Alex McCarthy in the 62nd minute.
Ultimately, Fatawu completed his hat-trick with a pair of goals in the space of six minutes. The goals were sandwiched by a Jamie Vardy goal assisted by the Ghanaian.
The East Midlands outfit ran out 5-0 winners on the night, obliterating potential title race and promotion competitors Southampton. They now lead the championship with 94 points, four clear of second-placed Leeds United with two games to go.
A loss for Leeds on Friday would seal their promotion to the Premier League.
‘A big shout to Kelechi and Daka’- Fatawu
After scoring the first hat-trick of his senior career, Fatawu thanked Daka and Kelechi.
“Big shout out to senior man @kelechi72 and @patsondaka for the shooting classes,” he wrote on his Instagram story.
Alongside Ndidi, the African quartet is known to share a good relationship on and off the pitch. They are often seen celebrating victories together.
While Daka has been switching with Jamie Vardy for the starting role in recent months, Kelechi has not started a league match since early December last year.
With his contract set to expire in the summer, the Nigerian forward has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace FC.
