Zambia striker Patson Daka will work under a new manager at Leicester City after the club appointed Gary Rowett to take charge for the remainder of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The 51-year-old tactician joins the Foxes with 14 matches left in the season and the club currently sitting 22nd on the table, two points from safety.

His immediate task will be to guide the team away from relegation danger and restore confidence within the squad.

Rowett arrives at Seagrave with a reputation for stabilising struggling sides, having previously steered Oxford United to safety in their first second-tier season since 1998/99. He has also managed Championship sides including Birmingham City, Millwall, Stoke City and Derby County.

Speaking in his first interview since taking the role, Rowett outlined his plans for the team, including Daka, as they battle to climb the standings.

“It’s about giving the players a clear and direct route out of it and what we need to do to improve results and start climbing the table,” he said. “We want to tackle these 14 games positively and try to find the missing pieces.”

Rowett, who played for Leicester between 2000 and 2002, emphasized structure, organisation and maximising the talent within the squad as key pillars of his approach.

For Daka, the managerial change comes at a crucial time, with the Zambian forward having scored two goals and provided three assists in the Championship so far, as Leicester push for a strong finish to the season.
