South Africa’s national team will face Mozambique at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium today, hoping to get off to a good start in the 2024 Cosafa Cup.

Helman Mkhalele, the team’s assistant coach, is aware of their opponent’s strong form and has urged his players to put up a fight.

“We are aware of the challenge, but looking at the players we have and the work that we have done in the last couple of days, I believe we are standing a good chance of doing well, even though it’s not going to be easy,” Mkhalele told SAFA.net.

“We need maximum concentration and make sure that we take the game to Mozambique. We’ve to create as many goal-scoring opportunities ad possible and convert them.”

Mkhalele hopes the team will take advantage of the home crowd and begin the tournament on a high note.

“A positive early start would be our priority and making sure that each and every chance that we get, we make use of it because that will also help us to settle down very well.”

South Africa is in Group A alongside Botswana, Mozambique and Eswatini. They are seeking their sixth Cosafa title.
