The Zambia national men’s team has dropped one place further in the latest FIFA World Ranking following the last two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Chad played this month.
The Chipolopolo laboured to a 1-0 victory over Chad in the return leg in Yaounde, Cameroon, following a goalless draw at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Avram Grant’s side sits second in Group G of the qualifiers with seven points, two behind the defending champions, Ivory Coast, who are on nine points.
Sierra Leone, who have moved four places up after beating the Elephants 1-0 in the reverse fixture, are third with four points, while Chad sits bottom with a solitary point.
Zambia has now moved to 94 from 93 in the world but still remains 20th on the continent, where Morocco still tops.
The continent’s top five comprises Morocco (13), Senegal (20), Egypt (30), Nigeria (36) and Algeria (37).
The Comoros Island were the biggest climbers after beating Tunisia 1-0 before a goalless draw, with the Carthage Eagles dropping 11 places.
The biggest point gain was recorded by Botswana, who recorded back-to-back wins over Cape Verde.
In the COSAFA region, South Africa is still topping the region despite dropping one place globally, to 60th from 58th, followed by Angola, who climbed three places up to 82nd. The rest of the top five in the region includes Zambia (94), Mozambique (98), and Comoros (108).
The next round of matches will be next month as the AFCON qualifiers come to a close with many teams still in contention for a place at the continent’s biggest showpiece set for Morocco.
