The Zambia national football team has announced its squad for Tuesday’s international friendly against Russia in Moscow. The 19-man roster, released by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), will be without several key players, including Patson Daka, Stopilla Sunzu, Lubambo Musonda, Obino Chisala, Kelvin Kampamba, Frankie Musonda, and Lameck Banda.
In goal, Toaster Nsabata (Zesco United), Charles Kalumba (Red Arrows), and Victor Chabu (Nchanga Rangers) have been selected, while Power Dynamos’ Lawrence Mulenga was dropped at the last minute after initially being called up.
The defensive line-up consists of Gift Mphande (Rishon-LeZion, Israel), Benedict Chepeshi (Zesco United), Kabaso Chongo (Kabwe Warriors), Dominic Chanda (Power Dynamos), and Kebson Kamanga (Red Arrows).
Chaiwa, Chilufya return
Miguel Chaiwa (Young Boys, Switzerland) makes his return to the squad following an injury that kept him out of the previous camp. Zanaco FC trio of Dominic Kanda, Wilson Chisala, and Kelvin Kapumba will join him in midfield.
Others are Emmanuel Banda (Al Tai, Saudi Arabia), Kings Kangwa (Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Israel), and Clatous Chama (Young Africans, Tanzania).
The attacking options include Edward Chilufya (Midtjylland, Denmark) and Songa Chipyoka (Hapoel Petah Tikva, Israel). Others are Kennedy Musonda (Young Africans, Tanzania), and Joseph S. Banda (FC Zurich, Switzerland).
This will be only the second meeting between Zambia and Russia. Their first encounter was on July 31, 1980, at the Moscow Olympics, where Zambia lost 3-1 to the Soviet Union. Godfrey Chitalu scored Zambia’s lone goal in that match.
