First to leave was Mark Harrison who arrived in Malawi two years ago to work at Mighty Mukuru Wanderers as Technical Director but a year later he doubled as head coach.

Harrison left the club for UD Songo of Mozambique following a trophyless season with Wanderers; however, he won the Airtel Top 8 cup which he won in 2022.

Wanderers finished in third place in the league, the club had given Harrison, two targets for the just concluded season: to win a league and a cup.

Meanwhile, yesterday saw Silver Strikers FC announced the dismissal of head coach De Jongh, citing “a thorough evaluation of the team’s performance against set targets and obligations” as the basis for their decision.

De Jongh had similar targets as Harrison but in his first season in charge, he finished second in the league and runners-up in the Castel Challenge Cup.

“The search for a suitable candidate will be conducted with the utmost care and consideration to ensure that the club continues to progress and achieve its set goals,” reads the statement.

In reaction, de Jongh expressed his satisfaction with the team’s accomplishments, taking into account their shared goals, available resources, and encountered obstacles.

Pasuwa remains the only foreign coach in Malawi.

“I had the honor of being coach for the team for a season and I loved the time I spent with the players. I wish the team and incoming coach all the best,” he said.

De Jongh has worked with national teams in Somalia, Rwanda, and Swaziland in addition to coaching FC Platinum and Highlanders F.C. in Zimbabwe.
