Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has led several football stakeholders in paying tribute to former Under-20 team manager Daniel Jere, who died on Monday evening.

Jere, a seasoned administrator and committee member at Super League side Green Buffaloes at the time of his death, lost his life after collapsing at his home. He was rushed to Chilenje Level One Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Jere served as team manager for the Under-20 national team when the Junior Chipolopolo lifted the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on home soil. He also worked as a team manager for Super League side Nkana.

In a statement issued to Bolanews by FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala, Mweemba said he was saddened by Jere’s passing.

“On behalf of my executive committee, myself and the entire football fraternity, I am saddened by the death of Mr Jere who served the game in various capacities,” says Mweemba. “Mr Jere will be remembered fondly for his role as U20 AFCON winning manager in 2017 among many roles he played including serving as under-17 team manager.”

Meanwhile, Jere’s ex-club Nkana has also paid tribute to him.

“Nkana Football Club is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Mr. Daniel Greyford Jere, our former team manager, after a short illness this afternoon,” a club post read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jere family, his friends, and the entire football community during this difficult time.”

And Green Buffaloes described Jere as a loyal servant of the game.
