Tanzanian national team striker Simon Msuva believes the Taifa Stars will shock their opponents at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Tanzania was pitted in Group F alongside Morocco, DR Congo, and Zambia, all former winners of the competition, but striker Simon Msuva said they are prepared to shock them at the finals.

In reference to DR Congo and Zambia, Msuva told Cafonline, “We have already gained experience in this competition and we are aware of the strength of these two teams we’ve played before.”

Msuva, who plays for Algeria’s JS Kabylie, warned that the Taifa stars can cause an upset at the tournament.

“The important thing is for us to go and fight hard. Even those nations seen as African football giants started like us. We are now going up and I’m sure we will shock them.”

The 30-year-old striker, who made his international debut in 2012, has been a regular for the Taifa Stars. He has scored 21 goals in 83 appearances for the Tanzanian national team.

Msuva was key in the qualifiers for the tournament, scoring two goals in six matches.

Last season, he scored 8 goals in 28 appearances for his Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah FC before moving to Algeria to Kabylie, where he has only made three appearances so far this season.
