Burundi and Green Eagles FC midfielder Aaron Musore has said his country will be aiming for maximum points when they face Zambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Musore, who has been a key figure in Green Eagles’ midfield, recently featured for Burundi in their 5-0 international friendly defeat to Morocco in Rabat.
The East African side will now shift focus to another friendly match against Equatorial Guinea scheduled for June 4 in Marrakech as part of preparations for the AFCON qualifying campaign beginning in September.
Burundi has been drawn in a tough qualifying group alongside World Cup-bound Algeria, Zambia, and Togo.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Musore expressed delight at representing his country at the senior national team level.
“I’m very happy to be in the national team because every player wants to be a part of it,” Musore said, whose country will face Zambia on 11 October 2026 before hosting the Chipolopolo Boys on October 15.
The midfielder described Zambia as a strong side and admitted he is looking forward to facing the Chipolopolo in the qualifiers.
“Zambia is a great team with excellent players, so it’s going to be a good game,” he said. “Personally, I’ll be very happy to see my country play against Zambia.”
However, Musore warned that Burundi would not make things easy for Zambia as they target qualification to the continental showpiece.
“The two matches won’t be easy games, but when you go to war, you go to win, not to lose,” he said.
Musore has spent the last four seasons at Green Eagles since joining from Musongati FC and believes the Choma-based side had a respectable campaign.
The AFCON qualifiers are expected to begin in September as teams battle for places at the 2027 tournament to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
