Chipolopolo forward Francisco Mwepu says he is aiming at reciprocating his club form to the national team ahead of the World Cup qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations.

Mwepu, who is on loan from Spanish La Liga side Cadiz to third-tier side Atlético Sanluqueo CF, is the club’s leading goal scorer with six goals.

The former Sturm Gramz striker is also eager to be off the mark for the Chipolopolo ahead of the Africa Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

“Of course, I am doing well at my club… And I also hope that, in that way, I can help the national team score goals,” he told FAZ Media. “As a striker, it’s always important to score goals. I hope I can replicate that for the national team.”

Mwepu is among Avram Grant’s 23 players currently in camp, set to take on the Cranes of Uganda tomorrow.

Mwepu made his Chipolopolo debut against Egypt on October 12, 2023.

“For me, it’s a privilege [to be with the National Team]. I just want to work hard, do my best, and add one or two to the national team to ensure it moves forward,” he stated.

The 23-year-old made his debut in a friendly match against Egypt in a 1-0 loss last Thursday.

Mwepu said that the team has to work hard against Uganda to return to their winning ways.

“It’s a tough and good friendly game but we just have to give it our best.”
