Marshall Munetsi and Khama Billiat have been left out of the Warriors of Zimbabwe’s final 28-man squad for the forthcoming Morocco 2025 Africa Cup.
The continent’s biggest football tournament kicks off on 21st December, with Zimbabwe taking on Egypt in their group opener on the 22nd.
The Southern African nation has participated in the AfCON tournament six times, with its first appearance being in 2004. Zimbabwe has struggled to progress beyond the group stages in their last six attempts.
Munetsi says he is hurt to miss AFCON because playing for the Warriors is a huge honour. He explains that although he was injured, Wolves had confirmed he was recovering and offered medical assistance, but he never received any follow-up from the association.
“This one hurts, as representing the Warriors has always been a dream, and wearing our colours is the greatest honour of my career. AFCON would have even been more significant.
“I had an injury recently, but my club, Wolves, communicated with the association that I was recovering well and even offered medical support to ensure that I could participate at the AFCON. Unfortunately, I received no follow-up communication, and decisions were made without clarity—speculation which wasn’t the case.
“While I’m hurt, my unwavering support for the national team remains strong . I respect the coach’s decisions and stand behind the boys wholeheartedly. I will always be ready to defend the nation I love.”
Zimbabwe head coach Mario Marinica has included Mamelodi Sundowns’ player Divine Lunga. Also picked is the Marumo Gallants’ duo of Washington Arubi and Daniel Msendami.
Veteran Knowledge Musona will lead the team’s frontline in the absence of injured Marshall Munetsi.

Other key players picked include Tawana Chirewa of Wolverhampton, Luton Town’s Marvellous Nakamba, and Elvis Chipezeze from Magesi.
On the 26th, Zimbabwe will square off against Angola, then conclude their group stage with South Africa on 29th December.
