According to Salomon Kalou, Morocco and Bafana Bafana stand a better chance of being crowned Champions of Africa at the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The AfCON tournament runs from 21st December to 18th January, 2025, in Morocco.

The ex-Ivorian striker made 93 international caps, representing his country at two FIFA World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

The former Chelsea forward was also part of the team that won the AfCON trophy in 2015 and came out as runners-up in 2012.

Speaking to SABC Sport in an interview, the former Chelsea star said.

“The hosting country is Morocco because they are home, and Nigeria because they are always there. You also have Cameroon, who always has a team to go far in the competition,” he said.

The Ivorian Star further backed South Africa as one of the favorites to win the trophy.

“In Bafana Bafana’s last competition, they finished third; they just qualified for the World Cup, and you see they are young players, they are developing, and I think they can be the favorites of this competition,” added Kalou.

Kalou retired from active professional football in 2024.
