Goalkeeper Brighton Munthali was sent off for bringing down Sadio Mane just 16 minutes into the first half, Malawi was reduced to 10 men.

Coach Patrick Mabedi of Malawi acknowledged that his team struggled to maintain control of the game.

“The red card changed the reflection of the game, we have to adjust because we need to be back as soon as possible. Otherwise, Senegal is a very good team, they capitalized the numerical advantage. Also, we gave away the ball so easily,” he said.

It is doubtful if the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) will keep Mabedi following the bad performance in the AfCON.

Malawi will host Senegal at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Tuesday, this week.

The Flames of Malawi has scored three goals and conceded 10 goals; three goals each against Burundi and Burkina Faso and four goals against Senegal.
