Konkola Blades, the league leaders in the Zambia Premier League National Division League, ended their seven-game winning streak on Saturday at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe with a goalless draw against Trident Football Club.

Since the beginning of the season, Sharp Razors had won seven straight games. They accumulated 21 points, which put them in front for Super League promotion, but they lost two points for the first time this year.

With 22 points, Beston Chambishi’s team is currently atop the standings, five points ahead of second-place Kansanshi Dynamos, who drew 0-0 with Chambishi at Solwezi. In an interview with BolaNews, Blades captain Kelly Kayembe believes the team will bounce back as they will now strategize for the upcoming matches.

“Credit to the boys for working hard in training and following the coaches’ instructions,” Kayembe. “This was inevitable. The good thing is that it has come early, and it’s shows that we can drop points. We just have to go back to the drawing board.”

The captain points out that because the club has raised the bar, supporters are counting on them to maintain the momentum that will return them to the top division of football.

“We’ve set the bar, and the fans have high expectations for us. There will be some ups and downs as the season progresses, but we’ll do our very best to see the team return to the Super League. I think the fans deserve to see their beloved club playing the highest league in our nation,” Kayembe said.
