The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has confirmed that its head coach, Pape Bouna Thiaw, and two players, Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye, appeared before the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the disruption during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final against Morocco.
The incident took place late in the match when Senegal’s coach instructed his players to leave the pitch after the hosts were awarded a penalty in the 88th minute. The decision led to a delay of about 15 minutes before play eventually resumed.
Despite the interruption, the Teranga Lions went on to defeat Morocco 1–0 after extra time to lift the continental title.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday morning, the Federation confirmed that disciplinary proceedings were underway, stemming from reports filed by match officials and reservations submitted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation at the conclusion of the final.
“The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) informs the national and international public that it appeared, on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, before the Disciplinary Jury of the Confederation of African Football (CAF),” the statement read.
“This procedure follows reports from match officials as well as reservations lodged by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation at the conclusion of the AFCON Morocco 2025 final.”
CAF to make ruling in 48 hours
According to the statement, the FSF delegation was represented by its general secretary and supported by legal counsel during the hearing.
“In this regard, the FSF, represented by its General Secretary, benefited from the legal assistance of Counsel Seydou Diagne.
“Head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw, as well as players Ismaïla Sarr and Iliman Ndiaye, were duly heard and presented their defences.”
The federation further revealed that CAF’s disciplinary body has reserved its ruling and is expected to communicate its decision shortly.
“The disciplinary body has taken the matter under deliberation and will notify its decision within forty-eight (48) hours, a timeframe set by the President of the Jury,” the statement concluded.
CAF is yet to announce any sanctions or outcomes related to the case, as the football fraternity awaits the verdict following the controversial final in Morocco.
