Power Dynamos midfielder Linos Makwaza Jr says players are determined to end the club’s 15-year wait for the ABSA Cup title following their progression to the quarter-finals of the competition last Friday.

On Good Friday, the Kitwe side sailed through to the last eight of the competition with a 2 – 0 win over Nampundwe FC, setting up a quarter-final clash with Nchanga Rangers, who beat Roan United 2 – 0.

Makwaza, who had a man-of-the-match performance in the game against Nampundwe FC, has told Bolanews in an interview that the players are eager to go all the way to the final.

“This time we have to win it,” he said. “We have never [not] won it in a long time.”

Power last won the ABSA Cup in 2011 when it was still branded as the Barclays Cup, beating Konkola Blades 2 – 1.

That same season, the Kitwe side won the Super League with 59 points, six better than second-placed Red Arrows.

Makwaza said a league and cup double is within sight.

“The target is to defend the championship,” he said while acknowledging that “it is a very huge task for us.”

He said players have to continue working hard to achieve the team’s targets.
