Musonda, a newly signed Young Africans Sports Club (YANGA SC) striker from Zambia, has explained why he left Power Dynamos and revealed that he is being treated like Cristiano Ronaldo.
The player who was unveiled by the Tanzanian club on Saturday last week from Zambian Super League side Power Dynamos FC has been key for the Kitwe-based side this season, scoring 11 goals and helping them maintain their league-leading position.
Musonda stated on a Facebook Live stream dubbed “The Zambian Football Podcast” on Monday that he predicted before the start of the season that he would leave Dynamos during the January transfer window.
“I really loved Power Dynamos, my teammates, and everyone that knew me in the preseason,” he said.
“Something in me just hit me and told me, and I quote ‘ by December I will be the top scorer and I am going to play professional football and Power Dynamos is going to win the League,’ so those words hit me so strongly.”
The Zambian forward did not argue with those who said he followed money in Tanzania, as he said his move to Yanga was good for his financial growth and that of Power Dynamos, especially as he gets older.
“Whether people say it’s about money, eventually money yes, because people say at my age, I’m growing, it’s true I need to put things into perspective and I have to consult, I have to talk to my family, I also have to be realistic with myself, how many good years do I have left in me, and I think it was good business for Power Dynamos, good business for me and good business for the league as well.”
Meanwhile, Musonda described his reception in Tanzania as “overwhelming,” saying it made him feel like Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I didn’t expect such a reception; back home, you just feel like an ordinary player, but here, the reception has been overwhelming; you feel like Cristiano Ronaldo or something, and you’re always in shock; so far, the reception has been good.”
Musonda was introduced to Yanga fans yesterday before the start of the NBC Premier League match against Ihefu at the National Stadium.
The former Green Eagles FC player joins his compatriots Clatous Chama, Aubrey Chirwa, Rodgers Kola, and Moses Phiri in the Tanzanian top-flight league.
