Green Eagles head coach Perry Mutapa has warned his players against complacency as the Choma-based side seeks to maintain its perfect start to the 2026 MTN Super League Transitional League when they face Nkwazi FC in Lusaka on Saturday.
Green Eagles head into the Week Five Stream B encounter at Edwin Imboela Stadium, sitting top of the table with nine points from three matches after recording three consecutive victories.
However, Mutapa has cautioned that their impressive start counts for little at this stage of the campaign, with 15 matches still remaining in the transitional league.
“We have only played three games. Three wins were good, but there is more to play. There are 15 games remaining, so three games does not mean anything, even if we have collected nine points,” Mutapa said.
Green Eagles travel to Lusaka following a 1-0 victory over Roan United, while their Saturday opponents are still searching for their first win of the season after drawing 0-0 with Green Buffaloes in their previous outing.
Mutapa said the encounter would be important for both sides, acknowledging Nkwazi’s need for maximum points while stressing his team’s determination to extend its winning run.
“It is a big game” – Mutapa.
“It is a big game for us; it is a big game for Nkwazi, knowing that they really need a victory, but we also want to maintain our winning streak,” he said.
The coach said preparations had followed the team’s usual routine but emphasized the need to keep improving with every match as the players continue to adapt and develop their understanding on the pitch.
He urged his charges to maintain the positive aspects of their performances while correcting areas that require improvement.
He added that the technical bench expected to see further progress as the team entered its fourth match of the campaign.
“It is a project, and we hope going into the fourth game, we are going to see a lot of improvements, because the more you play, the more improvements you should have,” he said.
Mutapa also highlighted the importance of set-pieces, which have been among Green Eagles’ strengths in the opening fixtures.
“Football is a game of details, and set-pieces are part of those details. We just have to do them, and, especially this season, I think we have done them well. So, we just hope to continue,” he said.
Saturday’s fixture will also reunite Mutapa with Nkwazi head coach Masauso Tembo, his former assistant for many years, including at Napsa Stars and Power Dynamos, where the two previously worked together before their paths diverged.
