Leicester City and Chipolopolo Striker Patson Daka says accepting the reality when one has suffered a long-term injury is the first step towards recovery.

Last year, Daka missed a number of crucial matches for both club and country when he suffered an ankle injury that ruled him out for 88 days between August 10, 2024 and November 5, 2024.

Recounting the ordeal, Daka has said while it was frustrating to be out for that long, it was important for him to accept that reality had struck and he needed to start working towards recovery.

“The most important thing for me was to accept it and know that this is the reality it has happened. I don’t have control over it to go back and change,” he said when he featured on the latest edition of the Premier League Chair on Super Sport.

He said he channeled his energies towards recovering and ensuring he gets back to full fitness.

“It was a matter of concentrating on what I can do to make sure I get back fit. I did not lose my focus because I knew what I wanted. I know what I want, I just kept my eyes on the goal,” Daka said.

After 88 days out, Daka returned and scored a number of important goals for then-manager Enzo Maresca in Leicester’s charge toward Premier League promotion.

This season, he has only managed to find the back of the net once in 13 matches compared to seven scored in 20 games last season.
