Mutondo Stars have dashed Red Arrows’ title hopes, beating the Airmen 1-0 via a Sebastian Muhango strike at Arthur Davies Stadium.
With Power Dynamos beating Konkola Blades 2 – 1 at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe, Arrows needed to beat Mutondo to extend the title race for at least another game week.
However, Muhango’s 33rd-minute goal was all Mutondo needed to boost their survival chances and hand Power the title with four games to spare.
Power moved to 70 points, 15 better than the Arrows, who are on 55 after the game.
Mutondo have momentarily moved out of the relegation zone, up to 14th on the table with 31 points.
“This is a very sweet victory, it was a very important game for us and we need to continue pushing,” Mutondo coach Ronald Mukosha said.
For Arrow, their focus is now on the Absa Cup, where they face Power at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on May 10.
“We need to be ready and ensure that we fight and win the Absa Cup,” Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe said
