Power Dynamos Football Club Chief Executive Officer, Gibson Chaloba has explained the decision to take this weekend’s Kitwe derby against Nkana Football Club to the 49-000 capacity Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Speaking when he featured on Flava FM’s Football Show, Chaloba explained that the decision was based on attaining full commercial value from the highly charged match against Kalampa.
“In terms of revenue, we are looking forward to gain more because, if you look at the Power Dynamos, the capacity is about 7,000,” Chaloba said. “We are anticipating to have over 30,000 or 25,000 fans and that already will be a plus to an institution because if we have 25,000 fans, then automatically, the revenue base also will actually grow.”
Chaloba also urged fans to refrain from attending matches without purchasing tickets to support the club’s financial sustainability.
“What we are calling upon probably is that, people should not, come to the stadiums to watch the games for free,” he stated.
“I think we should now leave that period where people would want to come and just want to come and gate crash. Because every coin that we spend, every coin that we receive, will actually help out a lot in running football. Football now is very, very expensive.”
The Power Dynamos CEO also explained why it’s a challenge to expand their stadium in Kitwe.
“A lot of people are calling for the expansion of, the stadium, but we can only expand when we have resources. And already, if people come in to watch these games, for us, that is one way of, developing and also getting those resources to build the stadium,” Chaloba explained.
He added, “Because if we go to a funder, a funder will ask you how much money have you raised so far for you to build this stadium. And, also, they want to see a record of people coming in to watch the games.”
