Leicester City were crowned champions of the English Championship on Monday night after defeating Preston 3-0 at Deepdale.

Club legend Jamie Vardy scored twice in the first half before Kasey McAteer added a third in the 67th minute to seal off their incredible campaign.

The Foxes’ automatic promotion back to the Premier League was already confirmed last Friday after second-placed Leeds United were thrashed 4-0 by Queens Park Rangers.

Following their title victory, Leicester City became the most successful team in Championship history, winning the competition for the eighth time and breaking Manchester City’s record of seven second-tier titles.

Meanwhile, Chipolopolo striker Patson Daka, who was an unused substitute on Monday, has become the first Zambian to win the championship.

In 20 games during the Foxes’ promotion campaign, the former Red Bull Salzburg player scored seven goals and assisted five others.

He has also won ten titles since moving to Europe, including the Community Shield and Championship with Leicester City and the remainder with Red Bull Salzburg.

In Austria, he won the UEFA Youth League (x1), Austrian Bundesliga (x4), and Austrian Cup (x3), as well as the Golden Boot, after scoring 27 goals and seven assists in 28 games during the 2020-21 season.
