Daka made his first start under Enzo on Saturday, scoring and assisting to help the Foxes thrash Plymouth 4-0 in the English Championship.
Enzo was forced to start Daka when both Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy were ruled out owing to illness and personal issues, respectively.
Before Saturday’s game, the Zambian made just two cameo appearances from the bench for Leicester City and was occasionally dropped from the matchday squads.
The 25-year-old striker played 26 minutes in the Carabao Cup against Liverpool and just a minute in the Championship against Sunderland.
Enzo said his situation with Daka was a “bit strange.”
“The situation with Pat [Paston] has been a bit strange,” Maresca was quoted as saying by Leicestershire Live. “Since day one, he works fantastic and he behaves fantastic. Because I play with one striker and we use Jamie, we use Kele, he didn’t get minutes. But it was not because he trained bad or behaved bad.”
Enzo also revealed that he said sorry to Daka for being sidelined.
“I always said to him that in these three or four months: ‘Pat, I’m very sorry for the situation.’ But it is what it is. He has continued to work in the right way.
“Now we had Kele ill and Jamie with a small problem. It was a chance for him and he took it. I’m very happy, especially for him, because he completely deserved it.
Enzo didn’t expect Daka to play well
The Italian gaffer added that he didn’t expect Daka to play well against Plymouth after being sidelined.
“Told Pat before the game, ‘It doesn’t matter if you play well or bad,” he said. “I don’t expect from you to play well. I can understand to be out for three or four months. So play free, relax, enjoy, and then we’ll see.’
Enzo also commented on the Zambian’s future saying, “For me the future is Wednesday.
“I swear, serious. Pat is one of our players. We are happy. If he is not happy and he wants to leave, we’ll see. Now it’s about Wednesday.”
