Mamelodi Sundowns secured their spot in the inaugural African Football League (AFL) final after defeating AL Ahly with a 1-0 aggregate score.

This came after a 0-0 draw in the second leg last night at the Cairo International Stadium.

It was a highly contested match, with Ronwen Williams saving a penalty to deny the home side.

Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena praised his players for getting the job done in the first leg on home soil.

“I must tell you that this semi-final was won in South Africa in the first leg. That 1-0 result was very big,” he said.

The Sundowns boss also slammed Al Ahly for what he termed as “complaining about everything” after the Egyptians claimed that the referee denied them a penalty.

“I am very surprised that Al Ahly complained about everything,” he said. “Before the first leg, Al Ahly complained that we played at 3 o’clock, and yet they are allowed to fix the game at the time that suits them, but you will hear no complaints from Sundowns.”

He added, “I am surprised that Al Ahly always complains about referees only when they lose. Jose Mourinho once said that when a big club starts to look for other factors apart from football when they lose, they begin to lose their status as a big club. I hope that is not the case with Al Ahly because they are a reflection of African football.”

Sundowns will face Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in the AFL final.

The winner of the tournament will pocket $ 4,000,000, while runners-up will walk away with $3,000,000.
