Former Chipolopolo forward Clifford Mulenga has described Nkana FC as a dangerous dark horse ahead of the 2026/27 MTN Super League season, while tipping Power Dynamos FC and Red Arrows FC as the main title contenders.
Mulenga said Nkana’s rich history, passionate fan base, and ability to rise to the occasion make them one of the most unpredictable teams in the league.
“Nkana remains one of the most unpredictable clubs in the league, always balancing between struggle and success. However, they are a dangerous dark horse because of their history, fan base and ability to rise when least expected,” he said.
Despite highlighting Nkana’s threat, Mulenga believes the title race will largely revolve around Power Dynamos and Red Arrows, who have shared four of the last five league titles between them.
“These are currently the two benchmark clubs in Zambian football,” Mulenga said.
“Their consistency has not come by luck but through strong club structure, player retention, disciplined recruitment, stability, and a clear football identity.”
Mulenga also noted that ZESCO United FC still has the quality and structure to compete with the league’s top sides if the club can stabilize its technical bench.
“In my view, only ZESCO United has the structure and capacity to consistently match them, provided they address and stabilize their coaching department,” he said.
He further stated that Zanaco FC could return as serious contenders if they improve player consistency.
