ZSL WRAP: Trident wins first league match, Zesco, Power draw, Buffaloes win big

Trident FC made headlines this weekend after winning their first match in the Zambian Super League.

Kalumbila-based Super League side Trident FC finally recorded their first win in the Zambian Super League since their promotion after winning last season’s National Divison League title. 

They got their winning goal through an own goal by Kelvin Mavinga to beat Mutondo FC 1-0 at the Levy Mwanawansa stadium in Ndola on Sunday.

Trident’s famous victory prevented them from repeating Mufulira Blackpool’s winless streak in the Super League in 2016.

In the other match on Sunday, Power Dynamos drew 1-1 with Zesco United in their. Collins Sikombe scored first in 34 minutes, and Moses Phiri opened his account for the reigning champions in the 80th minute to level the score.

Meanwhile, Red Arrows, who now lead the league with 42 points after 22 matches, two points ahead of Zesco and five ahead of Power Dynamos, drew 0-0 with Mufulira Wanderers on Saturday.

Trident remains at rock bottom in the standings with only 13 points, followed by Prison Leopards, Nkana, and Mutondo with 22, 23, and 24 points, respectively.
