The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) is in advanced talks with TopStar over the broadcast rights for the 2025/26 MTN Super League season, BolaNews has established.
This development follows the departure of MultiChoice’s SuperSport, which withdrew from broadcasting Zambia’s top-flight league due to financial constraints. The company has faced significant challenges in recent months, culminating in South Africa’s Competition Tribunal approving Canal+’s $2 billion takeover offer for MultiChoice, subject to agreed conditions, last month.
SuperSport’s exit also resulted in job losses for several Zambians employed at Vision View, the production company subcontracted by SuperSport.
Last season, which marked SuperSport’s final year covering the league, the broadcast quality was widely criticised by fans after an AI-automated camera was used to film matches.
With the new season set to kick off this weekend, BolaNews understands that ZPL and TopStar have reached an advanced stage in negotiations to take over the league’s broadcasting rights. The deal was initially expected to be finalised last week.
TopStar has already begun test broadcasts, airing the 2025 Carling Black Label Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu Charity Shield live from Ndola over the weekend on its dedicated sports channel, ZNBC TV3.
