Zesco United triumphs to exert pressure on Red Arrows

The seven-times league winners went into this match knowing that only a victory will reduce the deficit on the Chisi Mbewe drilled side.

Zesco United came from a goal down to record a 2-1 victory over relegation threatened Kansanshi Dynamos, to reduce to the gap to three against league leaders, Red Arrows who defeated Nkwazi football club 1-0 yesterday.

Top four league clubs Red Arrows 25 matches (51 points), Zesco United 25 (48 points) Power Dynamos (25) 44 and FC MUZA (25) 43.

On Saturday, Arrows took a six-point lead over second placed Zesco after winning 1-0 over Nkwazi at Edwin Imboela Stadium.

But Zesco have cut the margin to three points with a 2-1 victory over Kansanshi Dynamos at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Sunday.

The seven-times national champions went into this match knowing that only a victory will push pressure on the Chisi Mbewe drilled side, having won three previous ones in 2004, 2021, and 2022.

Jimmy Mukeya gave Kansanshi the lead in the thirteenth minute, followed in the 30th minute by seasoned player John Chingandu. Defender Solomon Sakala sealed the victory just before the half whistle.

Due to his outstanding performance in both halves, Solomon Sakala went on to win the Super Sport and Fans’ Man of the Match Awards.

Teams in the relegation zone includes Nkana (25) 29 points, Kansanshi Dynamos (24) 25 points, Prison Leopards (25) 22 points, Trident (25) 13 points.
