Zanaco Football Club left-back Fredrick Mwimanzi has described the just-ended 2024/25 Super League season as the worst of his football career, following the team’s struggle to avoid relegation.
Speaking exclusively to Bolanews.co, Mwimanzi, who joined the club in the second round on a one-and-a-half-year deal, admitted the campaign was personally frustrating.
“This season personally was the most irritating season of my career, whereby even when you win three times, you are not moving anywhere on the log. Otherwise, it’s just the power of God that we survived,” he said.
Zanaco endured a tough season under coach Numba Mumamba, finishing 14th with 39 points—just above the relegation zone. The Bankers managed only nine wins, drew twelve matches, and lost thirteen.
Their survival was secured on the final day of the season, despite a loss to Red Arrows, narrowly avoiding the drop.
Looking ahead, Mwimanzi expressed optimism and a commitment to helping the team bounce back.
“We just need to prepare adequately this time around. Zanaco is a big team and should not be anywhere close to relegation. When Zanaco prepares well for the next season then anything is possible. I can assure you that I will personally put in my best to make sure the team doesn’t get close to being relegated,” he added.
The former Kabwe Warriors defender believes with proper preparation, Zanaco can return to its competitive best next season.
Meanwhile, the Bankers will be aiming to change the narrative and re-establish themselves as contenders in the coming campaign.
