The Football Association of Zambia’s President, Andrew Kamanga, has urged teams to maintain high levels of discipline as the domestic league resumes this weekend.

The Zambian Super League took a break from January 15th to February 12th, 2024, due to the Africa Cup of Nations, which concluded last night with Ivory Coast defeating Nigeria 2-1 to win their third trophy.

Following concerns about the rise in hooliganism in Zambian football, the FAZ president has urged clubs to avoid the vice in his weekly President’s Corner column.

“Finally, the MTN Super League is back this weekend after a break induced by the Africa Cup of Nations. We are hopeful that the second half of the league will provide a rounded experience in terms of less disciplinary cases. So far the 2023–24 season has fared well,” said Kamanga.

“We will be hoping that the investments made during the midseason break will translate into competitive teams that can represent our national brand better.

“We are eager to see our teams return to the top of the continental fold, where we have slid in the last few years. Additionally, we remain open to our membership to ensure that we collectively find a way back to the top,” he said.

Zesco United currently leads the Zambian Super League with 39 points after 20 matches, with Red Arrows, Power Dynamos, and Green Eagles sitting second, third, and fourth, respectively.
