Malawi women’s national team captain Tabitha Chawinga scored against Lyon to help her side, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), draw 1-1 on Sunday night in the French Division 1 Feminine.

She put her side in the lead with a beautiful goal in the 67th minute, but that was not enough as the league leaders levelled in the 90th minute through an own goal by French defender Elisa Almeida.

Tabitha’s goal on Sunday takes her tally in the French Women’s League to 10 goals in 14 games with 6 assists. Ahead of her is Lyon’s Ada Hegerberg, who leads the Golden Boot race with 11 goals in 13 games and one assist.

Speaking to BolaNews after the game, Tabitha said its her dream to win the Golden Boot in France.

“I should thank God that I scored. It was a difficult game playing away but God gave me a goal,” she told BolaNews.

“Yes, it is still my dream to win the Golden Boot but I know it will not be easy; there are a lot of strikers who are scoring and dreaming to win the accolade.”

In the 2022–23 season, Chawinga, who was on a season-long loan from Chinese champions Wuhan, scored 23 goals in 21 games for Inter Millan and became the first African woman to win the Golden Boot in Italy.

She will now look to do the same in France this season.
