After a year of being on the sidelines, Perry Mutapa has bounced back into the hot seat of coaching with an appointment as Green Eagles coach.

On June 26 last year, Napsa Stars cut ties with Mutapa. Since then, he had been spending some time with lower division side Mines United as a football director.

Having worked in the background to help Mines level up to the Super League, Mutapa has ditched the director’s booth for a place he is too familiar with, the technical bench.

During the official unveiling at the club secretariat on Saturday, Mutapa has promised to help the team towards glory.

Eagles are looking for some stability that they enjoyed under Aggrey Chiyangi where they could even manage qualifying to the Confederation Cup.

Since Chiyangi’s departure, they have struggled under Alex Namazaba and later Kebby Hachipuka. Mutapa is expected to bring some stability to the Choma based side.

“I am here to do a job as a coach and I know where the team is coming from. The expectations for the coming season will be high so the most important thing will be for us to work hard as a team,” he said at his unveiling.

Eagles narrowly expected relegation last season and they expect to do better.

“…if we work together as a team we will bring the glory days to Green Eagles,” Mutapa said.
