Subpar sensational Zanaco Football Club defeated Lumwana Radiants by a slim 1-0 margin at home on Sunday at Sunset Stadium, ending a three-game losing streak.

Coming into the match after three consecutive defeats, Zanaco needed a victory to revitalize their relegation survival campaign.

A late goal provided the crucial victory for the home side, thanks to Lambert Araina 81st minute strike that earned a much-needed win for the bankers who remain second from bottom.

The tension was palpable as Zanaco, desperate to avoid relegation, faced off against fellow strugglers Lumwana Radiants. “A every important game against a determined Lumwana football club,” said head coach Numba Mumamba, acknowledging the high stakes. “We expected this game to be tough.“

Despite the victory, Mumamba expressed concerns about his team’s finishing. “We need to improve especially in the final third,” he stated. “We need to maximize on goals because we are not sitting well on goal aggregate, we need to start scoring more goals.”

“I think this is the game that we controlled the entire 90 minutes,” Mumamba reflected on the match. “The only thing that was lacking is finishing but toward the end we managed to get the goal that gave us the three points that we needed.”

Mumamba recognized the importance of the win for his team’s morale and their fight against relegation.

Looking ahead, Zanaco faces a challenging away fixture against Mutondo Stars in Ndola. “Playing Mutondo it will be another difficult game that we expect,” Mumamba predicted. “Mutondo is a team that has got very young players who are energetic we expect a tough game playing them.”

Despite the difficult route ahead, Mumamba remains optimistic. “But we have a young team that is eager to learn we just have to push them,” he concluded. With the win, Zanaco is two points away from escaping the relegation zone.
