Newly promoted Zambian Super League side Trident Football Club have placed their head coach, Israel Mwanza, on administrative leave.
BolaNews sources, however, reveal that Mwanza has been sacked for failing to win in the club’s first three league matches. He drew 1-1 with Kansanshi Dynamos and lost 2-1 and 2-0 to Kabwe Warriors and Zanaco, respectively.
He has now become the second coach in the Zambian League to be sacked after Beston Chambeshi at Nkana FC.
Trident announced Mwanza’s departure on Monday afternoon in a statement.
“After a thorough evaluation of our team’s performance and the recent string of unsatisfactory outcomes, Trident Football Club has made the decision to place our head coach, Mr. Israel Mwanza, on administrative leave,” read the club statement.
Meanwhile, assistant coach Arnold Malisawa will take over as interim head coach. He will be assisted by Mwape Chongo and Isaac Shimoko, according to the club.
Mwanza helped the team gain promotion to the Super League last season. He joined the club towards the end of the 2021–22 season after being fired at Nchanga Rangers.
The Conquerors will face Red Arrows this weekend in their quest to collect their first Super League win.
