Nchanga Rangers Football Club assistant coach Boyd Mulwanda says the technical bench’s decision to maintain the same starting eleven from last season’s unbeaten run was key to their 2-0 victory over Mutondo Stars in the season opener of the 2025-26 MTN Zambian Premier League fixture at Nchanga Stadium on Sunday.
Mulwanda said consistency was important after Rangers ended the last campaign strongly.
“If you check, we finished last season with the same team and went eight games unbeaten. So, we thought it was best to start with the same team and build on it as we go,” he explained.
The coach admitted his side lost momentum after an early goal in the first half but improved as the game went on.
“We started well and got the goal, but then relaxed and gave them space to fight for an equalizer. In the second half, after some changes, there was much improvement, and we scored the second goal,” he said.
He added that new signings would need to prove themselves before breaking into the squad.
“We’ve made signings to add value, but they have to fight for their place. Everyone will get a chance as the season progresses,” he said.
Looking ahead, he acknowledged areas for improvement.
“Mutondo kept the ball well, and we gave them too much room. Going into the next game, we’ll work on closing opponents faster,” he noted.
On Brave Rangers’ ambitions for the season, Mulwanda stressed their determination.
“When the season starts, every team targets the league title and continental football. That’s also our target, but it’s still early days,” he said.

He thanked the supporters for their unwavering backing.
“The fans came in numbers, and they gave us the morale to push. We really appreciate them,” said Mulwanda.
