Red Arrows Football Club head coach Chisi Mbewe has revealed that winning the 2023–24 Super League title is the Airmen’s top priority this season.

The Airmen are coming off a 4-0 bashing of Nkwazi Football Club and are currently at the top of the log with 17 points.

In a recent interview, Mbewe said his side has set the target of winning the title, noting that they will need to remain consistent to achieve the target.

He adds that it will be important to approach each match as it comes and not be carried away following an impressive 3-match winning streak.

“At the beginning of the season, we set goals and targets for what we want to achieve. We are taking it one game at a time and we need to focus on one game after the other,” Mbewe said. “Winning the league is one of our ambitions this season but at the moment we are concentrating on one game at a time.”

Mbewe aware of Blades’ threat

Mbewe has urged his players not to be complacent as they take on the Konkola Blades in a Week 9 Super League match.

He notes that the Chililabombwe side has experience in their ranks and has just been ‘unlucky’ not to collect maximum points in their previous matches.

“It will be a tricky match. They have experienced players and they are playing good football. It is just that they are yet to find their winning ways but we just need to keep fighting and maximise the points,” stated Mbewe

“We know their strengths and weaknesses after watching their match against Zanaco but we don’t need to be complacent after last week’s result, which is water under the bridge. We need to go and continue from where we left off last weekend against Nkwazi.”

Red Arrows have been one of the most solid and consistent sides so far in the 2023–24 Super League season, having only conceded three times in eight matches.

Mbewe believes the team needs to be resolute at the back to emerge champions at the end of the season.

“We need to remain focused and utilize the chances we create. We also need to keep clean sheets if we are to achieve positive results.”

The Zambian Super League will this weekend enter Week 9, with leaders Red Arrows taking on relegation-threatened Konkola Blades at Konkola Stadium on Saturday.
