Kabwe Warriors assistant coach Derrick Mulenga says it was emotional facing former coaches Numba Mumamba and Noel Mwandila in a Week 24 MTN Super League tie.
Walya Nganga beat the Bankers 1-0 to keep their second place on the log with 44 points. Zesco United is ahead with 46 points while Zanaco FC is second from bottom.
On January 8, Mumamba and Mwandila joined Zanaco FC on two-and-a-half-year contracts.
Speaking after the match, Mulenga said it was an important win for the team despite the emotions around the return of the head coach who left the club a month ago.
Mulenga described the encounter as a tough match, but praised his players for collecting maximum points.
“I’d like to congratulate the players, they did well it was not easy,” Mulenga said. “All the games that we are facing, I think towards the end of the season, won’t be easy, so I think the approach that we planned during the week has worked to our advantage.”
Mulenga said the technical bench will continue improving the team’s tactical sharpness ahead of the remaining matches.
Mulenga Acknowleges Numba Mumamba, Mwandila.
“I think there are certain areas that we worked on this week after the forest game, which showed positive in the team, and then the areas where we need to improve more this week, so we’ll keep on improving and looking at the areas where we’re not doing well, especially up front. So, I think this week we’ll continue working and encouraging them,” Mulenga said.
Mulenga attributed the emotions of reunion with former coaches to the role they played in assembling the current team.
“I think emotions were there, those two coaches were the coaches who assembled the team; we worked with them for almost 2 years and were happy to see them. Coming to the game, I think our focus was on collecting maximum points,” he disclosed.
