Nkana secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over a 10-man Green Eagles at Nkana Stadium on Sunday, climbing back into the MTN Zambian Premier Super League’s top four.
Clement Mwape’s 45th-minute strike was the difference in a tightly contested Week 24 fixture to leapfrog Power Dynamos and occupy 4th position on the log with 40 points.
Head coach Mwenya Chipepo, who joined Aba Red from Forest Rangers admitted it was a tough battle despite playing at home.
“It wasn’t an easy game, though we were playing under a big crowd. Our supporters came in numbers, but what was important was to just pick three points.“
With Nkana set to travel to Chingola for a clash against Nchanga Rangers, Chipepo acknowledged that teams have been coming well-prepared to face them.
“Every team we are playing, they are coming prepared,” he said. “Another tough game away from home, but we just have to work very, very hard. I was even telling the players that we are now in problems because every team is preparing well against us.”
Eagles finished the game with 10 men after Warren Kunda saw red for kicking Nkana goalkeeper Patrick Chooma in the face. However, Chipepo is not overly concerned about Chooma’s potential absence in the next fixture.
“We have other three goalkeepers. You saw the one who came in (Chiluba Musonda), he’s young and upcoming. He did well, I don’t have a problem with that.”
