Napsa Stars edged Zanaco 1-0 on Thursday at the REIZ Arena, completing a season double over the Bankers in the Lusaka Derby. The victory mirrored their first-round result in November and handed them the bragging rights once again.
The win also pushed Napsa Stars further away from the relegation battle. Assistant coach Lawrence M. Lubinda was pleased with how his team executed their game plan, ending Zanaco’s three-match winning streak.
“We prepared well for this game. We knew it was going to be tough because Zanaco had won their last three matches in a row. So we expected a difficult match,” Lubinda said.
With six games left in the season, Lubinda emphasized the importance of solid preparations.
“Football is all about preparation. What you do in training always reflects on match day, and we are putting in a lot of work,” he added.
The win over an in-form Zanaco has boosted the Pensioners’ confidence, lifting them to 37 points—six clear of the relegation zone.
“It’s a huge motivation. It takes us to 37 points, and we keep pushing. Local derbies are never easy; form doesn’t matter—it’s all about character and attitude,” Lubinda concluded.
