Indeni FC Relegated from MTN Super League After Heavy Loss to Nkana

With six games remaining, Indeni are mathematically relegated from the Super League.

Indeni FC’s hopes of remaining in the MTN Super League have been dashed after suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Nkana today, marking the end of their top-flight football aspirations for the season. The loss mathematically sealed their relegation, as they are now unable to escape the relegation zone even if they manage to secure victories in their remaining six games.

This relegation comes just one year after the club’s promotion to the MTN Super League, a short-lived stay in Zambia’s top-tier football competition. Indeni’s season was plagued by struggles, including a transfer ban that hindered their ability to strengthen their squad. Despite the challenges, the team only managed two victories—one coming last year against Zanaco in a thrilling 2-3 away win, and the other in January against FC Muza, where they triumphed 1-0.

With 20 losses and six draws throughout the season, Indeni’s performance has been a far cry from what is needed to compete at the highest level. Their inability to consistently challenge the stronger sides in the league has ultimately led to their relegation. This marks a bitter disappointment for a club that had hoped to make their mark in the Super League following their promotion.

The team will now shift focus toward rebuilding for the future. In the upcoming season, they will compete in the ZPL National Division One League, Zambia’s second-tier football division. While painful, the relegation presents an opportunity for the club to regroup and strategize for a return to the Super League in the near future.
