Perry Mutapa, Napsa Stars’ head coach, has praised his players for their improved play since the season’s second-round kick-off.

The Pensioners beat Nkana 1-0 at Woodlands Stadium on Saturday through an Adam Zikuru goal in the second half.

The victory was Napsa’s eighth, and they now sit in 14th place with 29 points from 25 matches, having recorded 8 draws and 10 defeats.

The Pensioners have struggled for form this season and will need at least three consecutive victories to avoid relegation in the remaining nine games.

Mutapa told journalists after the match that he was happy with the striker’s performance so far.

“Consistency has not been there, but if you saw today Oburu kept the defense, I think they couldn’t contain him,” he said. “So I think the striking force is now gelling; of course, Oburu came in the window so it’s not easy to gel with the guys.”

The former Power Dynamos coach also stated that his team’s main shortcoming has been a lack of goal-scoring.

“The most important thing is that we have freshened the squad, but they have to gel, especially in front of course.  Our weakness has been scoring goals. In all games, we need to take our chances,” he concluded.

Mutapa’s side shifts their attention to facing fourth-placed FC Muza, who are on a four-match unbeaten run this weekend.
