MTN Super League top moments of the week

Power Dynamos left cursing, Chicken hatched in Chingola, while Chipepo continues to be the man of the moment in the Super League.

Unlike during the international break, when we were all smiles thanks to Chipolopolo’s wins, the resumption of the MTN Super League at the weekend brought with it tears to some and continued joy to others.

Such is the nature of league football; there can never be a situation where everyone is smiling. Let’s start at Levy Mwanwasa Stadium, shall we?

POWER LEFT CURSING

I said it; the international break was an unwelcome disruption for Power Dynamos. They must be cursing FIFA now that the hiatus slowed their progression! No sooner had the league returned than Power’s winning run came to an end—I hope I got the English correct there!

Before the international break, Power were on a five-match winning streak, beating whoever came their way. A brief diversion from league football, however, has hurt Oswald Mutapa’s men; they resumed with a 2-0 defeat to Zesco United.

The consequences of that defeat were heavy; they plummeted from first to fourth in the league.  The challenge will be to recover when they take on Napsa Stars this Wednesday at Arthur Davies Stadium.

ARTISTRY ON THE FIELD

It should not surprise you if you see Zanaco nominated for one of those year-end arts awards. Right now, there’s no team better at ‘drawing’ than them!

Their scoreless draw against Nkwazi at the weekend meant that the Bankers have recorded seven stalemates; no team has more. This should worry interim trainer Dabid Chilufya, who failed to inspire his team to victory after taking over from Wedson Nyirenda.

Someone grab those pencils away before the seven-time league champions become a serious relegation candidate. Wait, they already are.

MAN ON A MISSION

Mwenya Chipepo is the man of the moment; four wins out of four matches has some Nkana fans suggesting he should have been the one to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Of the four winners, I bet Sunday’s victory was the sweetest in that it came against Forest Rangers, his former employers.

During the match, you could see the determination from the Forest players to pick one over their former boss, but hey, you cannot stop a man on a mission, at least for now.

How long do you think this roll will go?

HATCHED IN ONE DAY

The man famed as ‘Chicken’ George Lwandamina has taken little time to settle at the Nchanga Rangers hen house if the result against defending champions Red Arrows is anything to go by.

For a team that had not won a game since August, facing the defending champions in his debut would have been the last thing that Lwandamina wanted, but it was also an ideal occasion to show what he is made of.

Whether it’s simply a managerial bounce or if Lwandamina is incubating something special, only time will tell.

Keep the conversation going; feel free to share what caught your eye at the weekend.
