Zambian Super League side Green Buffalos have presented a letter of interest to Malawian club Mighty Mukuru Wanderers to sign striker Christopher Kumwembe.

Buffaloes spotted Kumwembe at the just-ended Cosafa Cup. He played all games and scored for the Malawi national football team.

In a letter seen by BolaNews the Zambia Army-sponsored side has indicated that they want to sign Kumwembe either on loan or on a permanent deal.

“Green Buffaloes has expressed interest in the services of Christopher Kumwembe either on loan or permanent deal,” read part of the letter.

“In view of the above request that we enter into negotiations with you at an appropriate date and time.”

The player declined to provide a comment when reached out to.

“I cannot comment on the matter, talk to the clubs involved,” said the 26-year-old striker.

Roosevelt Mpinganjira is Wanderer’s chief executive officer who confirmed that Buffaloes had indeed presented a letter expressing interest in Kumwembe.

“Yes, I can confirm [that we received a letter from Buffaloes] but we communicated to them that the player is not for sale,” he said.

Wanderers set a price of $80,000 for Kumwembe

When asked about the transfer fee for the striker, Mpinganjira was hesitant to reveal it.

“The matter is simple, the player is not for sale, and we cannot start charging them when we are not selling the player. He is in our plans so we cannot sell him,” he said.

However, information gathered by Bolanews indicates that Wanderers had communicated to Buffaloes that if they want Kumwembe, then they should cough up $80 000 (K1,535,083.20 Zambian kwacha).

“It appears that Buffaloes cannot manage to spend that much. They are still negotiating to see to it that the amount has dropped or it fails, they should have the striker for a year loan period,” a source close to the deal revealed.

Kumwembe is Wanderer’s top scorer this season after banging 7 goals in 10 league games.

He was signed by Wanderers this year from Civil Service United and he is remaining with two years and months on his contract.
