On Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa stadium in a rescheduled Week 5 league fixture, Zesco United came from behind to beat Red Arrows side 3-1 to end their winless run of the 2025-26 season.

The nine-time league champions registered a perfect response to a 1-nil home defeat to Nkwazi FC last time out.

Josephi Phiri silenced the home crowd a minute before halftime when he scored for Arrows in the 44th minute. At the resumption of second half, it took five minutes for Amine Hiver, equalized for Zega Mambo in the 50th minute with a perfect strike.

Seven minutes later, the fan’s favorite Alex Ng’onga added the second before Abraham Siakombo took the match beyond the reach of league leaders, Arrows.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Zesco United head coach Emmanuel Siwale expressed happiness with the team’s performance.

“This is a good win, but it wasn’t easy; we were playing our fellow giants as coaches. When you are playing teams like Red Arrows, you know maybe you are playing a CAF game, very tactical, where you have to use your brain,” he said.

Zesco United have now moved to 14 points from 11 matches played so far.

“It’s a motivating result, but the job is still a long way ahead of us. This is water under the bridge—what is good about this is that we have broken the bad run, and what will matter is the way we move going forward. It is important we work extra hard,” noted Siwale.

Zesco United will look to replicate this form when they will face Nchanga Rangers in another rescheduled fixture on Wednesday.
